Homeward Bound

Remembering summer at the beach.

Although I wasn't attempting to create any one place, I had used as one of my reference photos, a shot of the entrance to Saints Rest Beach in Saint John, N.B.  Many people recognized the atmosphere of the location even with most of the detail removed and other items moved or changed to make a good painting.

I titled the work "Homeward Bound" because as I was painting I was missing the beach and my thoughts and heart went out to the many friends I have who are working so far away from home and in most cases, away from family as well.  My longing for the beach pales next to their homesickness. This work is a tribute to those who give up so much to keep it all together.

With the frame, this painting measures around 24 x 24 inches as it is in a wood frame with a white liner, around 4 inches wide.

Please message me for more details or a photo of the framed painting.

Never Again

Another in a series, I have been working on.  I have been concentrating on using various materials to create these little works. I am allowing myself to be totally free and to just enjoy the process.

This work is larger than most but I needed the space to express what I felt. There's a lot going on in the world that's very upsetting right now and I see people that I care about caught up in the mess through no fault of their own. I can't help but wonder, "Is there any way to touch those who have chosen to hate? Is it possible for a human soul to allow itself to be totally filled with hatred?  Why would any sane person choose to hate and hurt others when there is so much joy to be had in loving and helping others?"

Another New Year

I want to wish each and every one of you a happy, healthy and creative new year.  For the past 12 years, I have always been extremely grateful to be granted the gift of another bright and shining new year.   On New Year's Day, all things seem possible. I didn't make any resolutions  except to make more time for family and friends.  Sometimes, it seems I'm in the studio every spare minute  seven days a week.  Over the holidays, I realized just how much I have been missing and I will try to change, honest.

I spent the morning getting my website updated so that all of last year's work is there.  Most of the new works are small but I am incredibly proud of the fact that I am developing a cohesive body of paintings in a style unique to me.  It's wonderful to be going in to a year with a direction laid out that I will follow until the time comes to explore other avenues of art.  The little 5 x 7 "Small Works" have been just wonderful to do and have been so well received.  For so long, whenever I did anything creative, so many people were critical that it made it difficult to go forward.  I've probably just surrounded myself with more supportive people but it's good and I am looking forward to participating in as many viable shows as I can in 2015.

I'll still be in the studio Tuesdays through Fridays when I'm not painting outside.  Please feel free to pop in for a coffee and a look around the mess.  If you call first, I'll wash my hands and have the coffee on.
