Painting What is Seen and Painting What is Felt
Sheila Howell currently works out of her home in Rothesay, New Brunswick but had been working full time in various rented studio/gallery spaces from 2013 until 2024.
She currently represents herself but has had her work shown in several New Brunswick galleries including the New Artisan Studio, the Fundy Gallery of Art, La Boheme and The Jailhouse Gallery.
Sheila has had a few solo shows including being "feature artist" for May and June , 2020 at Kingsbrae Gardens, St. Andrews, N.B. She has also participated in numerous group shows including, The Kings County Studio Tour, The Summerville Art Festival, the RNS Show and Sale, and St. David's Sale in Rothesay. In 2023, she was invited to showcase her work in a display at the Saint john Airport.
In her early days, Sheila had studied with various artists including Robert Percival, and Peter Davidson. Recently she has been studying with Herzl Kashetsky. For the most part, though, she considers herself self-taught. Sheila likes to experiment with many different media but is known for her acrylic and oil paintings.
Sheila's paintings are included in several prominent local private collections. She also has paintings throughout Canada and the United States. Her work has also gone to several countries including Germany, Ireland, England, Poland, Japan, China and Australia.
Her work has even been chosen to be placed on a beer label and a city picnic table.
Several of Sheila's paintings have been chosen for the Top 15% in the Bold Brush Art Contest. Sheila is very proud to have been chosen as the first painting in many collections. Sheila has been interviewed by CBC Radio and the Telegraph Journal. Sheila's work was on the cover and was the feature story of The Salon twice and on the cover of Neighbours of Rothesay Road.
