Daffodils for Hope

I saw these guys growing in a public garden at East Riverside in 2014. I actually started this work months ago but I got stalled and had to put it away.  I was going to donate it for a Canadian Cancer Society dinner and auction. It wasn't finished in time so they ended up getting a much larger work. Fingers crossed it does well for the cause.

Daffodils are really a symbol of hope for those of us who live in a cold climate.  Although we do try to enjoy every day, our winters are long. Every spring, I am amazed when these flowers start poking through. I love them, especially the King Alfred variety which I plant in memory of my father, Alfred.

Looking Back

Here, I've painted some memories of a couple of summers past.

This is a work I just finished.  We have been totally snowbound here in New Brunswick.  I have been escaping by painting flowers and now water.  This painting is from a photo I took while going through the Nerepis River on a friend's boat.  I took a lot of artistic licence in the creating of this painting. Trees have been moved, replaced and I have added some land where trees were actually growing out of the water. I also used some acrylic ink applied with a straw to give some more character to the trees in the foreground.  There often comes a time, when I put the photograph away and concentrate on creating a painting that expresses my emotions and feelings of remembrance toward the scene.    Painting this work brought back a lot of memories and I feel I was able to express what I wanted to say with this work as I "Looked Back".
