Radiance

I wanted to create a fiery painting.

I finished this one a couple of days ago. There was a lot of wet in wet painting, a bit of ink and a wee bit of medium to create the shiny wet lines.  I wanted to create a fiery painting. What it's about, I leave for you to decide. There are several ways to interpret this painting and no one way is right or wrong.

It will be sold framed in a simple black floating frame.

A New Chapter

One of several Sheila Howell paintings now available at retro and Rust 175 Prince William St.

After representing myself for a while, I've finally found someone with a unique venue for my wall paintings and the newer floor art. Although I will still be doing studio showings, I'll be able to dedicate more time to producing new works.

Artisan and carpenter, Roland Allhiser, along with his partner, Mark Mcgovern, has opened a fantastic store, Retro and Rust.  Retro and Rust is located at 175 Prince William Street in Saint John, N.B.. Here you will find, Roland's beautifully designed and crafted furniture and lamps as well as some creatively repurposed bits and pieces.  Ed Vanoorschot has some amazing wood carvings and turnings featured there as well.  I've loved Ed's work for a long time now.

I've attached several photos of the shop and works I have there.  I am in the process of updating my web site http://www.artofsheilahowell  to show where each piece is currently being shown. This has to be the most fun and upbeat store I have ever been in. Do yourself a favour and pop in.

Wild October

A Total Riot of Colour!

It's beautiful October in New Brunswick. The woods are a total riot of colour everywhere you look. Our October weather is brisk but the air is so fresh and invigorating. An October walk in the woods is always a treat!

I tried hard to capture the delight I feel on my October walks! I've used a fairly abstract technique to capture the emotions of the experience as well as the glory or the colours. I've added my signature ink over the acrylic paint!

This work is on gallery wrap canvas and the painting continues on the 1.5 inch sides. it is designed to be hung "gallery style", without a frame.
