This painting was inspired by the many caring and inspirational people I have been blessed to know who work with kids that need special help in one area or another. I can never help but wonder how many children have been given "The Gift of Wings" by these wonderful people. Gift of Wings 1 is a small work I made as a little gift.
This work is a watercolor batik in that I used hot wax as a masking medium and covered the whole work in wax, added a dark colour on top of the wax, and ironed it off. However, i can never leave well enough alone so I throw and blow ink over the finished work.
There was no intention to make a realistic butterfly. I only wanted the essence of the natural elements. I love the colours in this work. The yellow seems to glow.
The work is being sold matted and backed with cream colored museum board and framed in a black wooden frame with white highlights.
