I was listening to Leonard Cohen while painting this work and I hope he doesn't me borrowing the title. Anthem is such a powerful song for those of us who are creative. I firmly believe that no matter how good an artist anyone becomes, someone will always find a fault somewhere in your painting. Some are offering constructive criticism, which is essential for artistic development. However, sometimes things attack your confidence in your own work, which can be deadly to a creative spirit. I was feeling crushed when I started this work but opening myself up to the process, without worrying what others would think or say and realizing that human art is better than perfect art, allowed me to continue. There is a bit of texture, the result of many layers and if you look closely, you will see bits of foil peeking out. This is a painting I am very proud of.
