The beaver sculpture in Loyalist Park. I loved painting these beaver, the water and the foliage, none of which were easy to paint.  To get the metal look of the beaver, I started with a layer of teal green, then a layer of ocher, a layer of turquoise, then finishes with a layer of unber mixed with blue, white and gray.  I always paint water in several layers, using quite wet paint.

I wanted to include a lot of information on this small painting so I had to tone down the trees and grass. In my original drawings and photos, there was one person on the path. In the very last stage, I decided to add an additional figure. I do think I caught the movement of the water as it seems to cascade down the sides of the pond and I find the finished painting very restful to view, almost like sitting next to the real thing.
