Our beautiful McLaren's Beach. If you grew up on the Westside of Saint John, no summer was complete without a couple of trips to McLaren's Beach. The water was bitterly cold but there was always something to see or collect on the beach. After we tired of swimming in the frigid water, if we were very lucky, there was a trip to the canteen. We usually only got french fries but every now and then, we would get the fried clams. Looking back, I still believe they were the best in the world.
