I love painting these small works. I allow myself to experiment in ways I am uncomfortable with when doing a larger painting. Little works have a special charm all of their own and when framed, they fit in the neatest areas of a home or office.
As an artist, "Never Sure" sums up so much of what I do. Most times I quickly determine a starting point in a painting, determine what I want to convey and fix an area of interest for a focal point but there are always nagging doubts. Over the years, I have learned to shut down the doubts but I am often "never sure". Some works, I will put away for a long time, only to look at them with "fresh eyes" and realize that I had done a good job. Paintings that I wasn't sure I should put in an exhibition are often the first to sell. The only work I am sure of is the realistic paintings but I am slowly getting confidence in my more experimental pieces.
This little work is a made up landscape and includes several types of paint as well as ink. There has been dripping, wet in wet, blowing and fine calligraphic brush work. This work is now framed in a quality Black wooden frame
